STYLE WEEK JAMAICA IS BACK FOR ITS FOURTH YEAR AND IT IS HAUTER AND BETTER THAN EVER FROM MAY 28th-31st
SAINT INTERNATIONAL BRINGS HAUTE COUTURE TO THE CARIBBEAN FOR THE FIRST TIME FOR FOUR DAYS OF FASHION, EDUCATIONAL AND AFTER PARTY EVENTS
May 1, 2009, New York, NY– Saint International will host and produce the sixth annual Style Week Jamaica (SWJ) events from May 28th– 31st in Kingston, Jamaica. Over the past several years, SWJ has evolved as Jamaica’s official fashion week and premier fashion center of global glamour. Each year, this event welcomes more than 30,000 attendees, including tastemakers and influencers who make up the fashion elite, celebrities, and Jamaica high society. Jamaica’s TOP designers and international designers, will exhibit their designs to local and international audiences in some of Jamaica’s posh locales. The week’s events include three days of fashion shows and previews, cocktail receptions, fashion seminars and workshops, tours and after-parties. SWJ has been highly-visible and featured in international fashion media such as V Magazine, the JC Report, Fader, I-D Magazine, UK media outlet Pride Magazine and other publications.
According to the Jamaica Observer, “Style Week Jamaica has always been about creating exceptional points of reference for our Jamaican designers to understand the finer points of design-fabric technology, silhouettes or structure, styling.” This year’s event is bigger and “hauter” than ever and kicks off Thursday, May 28th with the Designer Development Seminar and UPTOWN Magazine and Saint International’s Welcome to Jamaica Party at a private mansion. Other informational events include a Fashion Summit, focusing on financial and business issues affecting the Jamaican fashion industry and designers and will include a vast expert panel consisting of designers, fashion editors, as well as The Buyers Lounge, hosted by the Jamaica Business Development Center. The lounge will provide an opportunity for private boutique owners to interact one-on-one with designers and place orders onsite.
The participation and expansion of world class designers and models from Paris, Milan, Singapore, India, South Africa and the U.S. proves to heighten the prestige and integral role of SWJ. “Style Week Jamaica consistently maintains its international edge and remains THE major platform for Jamaica’s top designers to display their designs to the world. This year I am extremely excited about the haute-couture debut of the Eymeric Francois Collection from Paris because this is the VERY first time haute-couture has showcased in the Caribbean,” says Deiwght Peters, CEO and Founder of Saint International.
This year’s fashion events will also include a multi-talented array of international designers such as wedding couture designer David Filden, British designer Julia Clancey, L.A. based designers Skingraftdesigns, Glam God Winner and Celebrity Designer Indashio, French-Armenian designer Loris Diran, Cameroonian designer Martial Tapolo, Accessories designer Katie Kay and more.
Two of the most anticipated events of Style Week Jamaica are FASHIONBLOCK and the Saint Style Awards. FASHIONBLOCK remains a world acclaimed event and the standard by which other fashion shows in the region are judged. This of course is because of its larger than life and detailed production including the blocking a major business thoroughfare and the staging of a 150 foot catwalk spectacle which remains to be topped anywhere in the world. International fashion media who have witnessed the event considers it one of the top three fashion shows anywhere in the world-with favorable comparisons to the Victoria’s Secret mega Christmas Show. Style Week Jamaica concludes with an ‘all-white attire’ affair, The Saint Style Awards. The Awards recognizes accomplishments in Jamaican fashion and acknowledges designers, models, fashion companies, socialites and celebrities who embrace and support the ever-changing and growing Jamaica Fashion Industry. Past honorees have included: Georgianna, b. Michael, XXXXXX.
Style Week Jamaica 2009 is presented by Saint International with a stellar list of sponsors including Digicel, Coca Cola, Heineken, The Jamaica Tourist Board, The Ministry of Culture, Jamaica Heritage Trust, Nationwide News Network, Courtleigh Hotel and Suites, The Spanish Court Hotel, UPTOWN Magazine, LUSSW Magazine, The Jamaica Business Development Center, Gateway Capital Holdings and Television Jamaica.
